Judge Surendran K. Pattel has dedicated his professional life to the pursuit of justice, serving with distinction as the presiding judge of the 240th District Court in Fort Bend County, Texas. Born in Kerala, India, Judge Pattel’s journey to the bench is a testament to his resilience and commitment to public service. After immigrating to the United States and becoming a U.S. citizen, he was elected to the bench, where he has consistently demonstrated his legal acumen and fairness. His leadership is marked by a deep respect for the law and a compassionate approach to justice, making him a pillar of integrity in the community.

Exemplary Efficiency and Effectiveness

After a remarkable case-disposal rate of 147.97 percent in February, my staff and I are proud to report that just-released data for March demonstrate that 240th District Court continues to fulfill its promises to the people of Fort Bend County in terms of courtroom efficiency.
According to the monthly performance report, our court distinguished itself by disposing of 198 cases in March, including three extensive, complex jury trials. 240th District Court’s impressive number of jury trials was equivalent to the combined total number of jury trials for all other general-jurisdiction courts (civil and criminal) in Fort Bend County.
As we move forward, we will continue to do our best to assure efficiency in the delivery of justice and the promotion of integrity in all of our endeavors.
  • Judge Pattel has overseen a dramatic reduction of the case backlog in District Court 240.
  • Judge Pattel has worked to reinforce the relationship between local attorneys and the court. He has been named the honorary judicial adviser of the Fort Bend Bar Association.
